As an electroencephalograph (EEG) technician, you operate specialized equipment that measures and records the electrical activity of the brain. Such tests can be used to assess and diagnose brain disorders, tumors, strokes, comas, catatonia, and sleep disorders. When handling donors, an EEG is used to record the end of all brain activity before their vital organs can be sourced for transplant operations. Using your specialized training, you are able to operate the electroencephalograph and attach the electrodes to the patient's scalp in a specific pattern. You may also advise patients during their pretest consultation, record their medical history, and calm them down if they are apprehensive about the procedure.

As an independent EEG technician, your expertise comes with certain risks. If you fail to notice "artifacts" such as patient's movements, poor electrode contacts, or defective apparatus, which affect the tracings, you could be held liable for the damages your oversight caused. If you prepare a written report of the tracings that contains errors, you could be held responsible for a physician's misdiagnosis.
